YouSendIt is one of the more popular digital transfer solutions for sending and receiving large files over the internet.

YouSendIt is an internet-based digital delivery service boasting over five million registered users from 220 countries around the world.

Primarily used for sending and receiving large computer files, YouSendIt is an inexpensive and easy-to-use alternative to previous digital and non-digital delivery methods such as:

  • sending large email attachments, which are often rejected by ISPs for bandwidth violations.

  • using an FTP site, which can be confusing for those who are not tech-savvy.

  • sending files on physical media (such as CD,DVD or flash drive) via snail mail or courier, which is expensive and time-consuming.

How YouSendIt Works

YouSendIt has created a very simple system for emailing large files. First-time users need only complete a short registration form and confirmation process before being able to download the software and start using the service.

Once logged in, users simply enter the destination email address (or addresses), attach the files and/or folders to be sent and click the “send it” button. All recipients will receive an email containing a link to the files/folders. There is even an optional message field in each transfer for users to directly input any instructions or notes relating to the file transfer instead of sending this information in a separate email.

YouSendIt also offers many other options for its registered users including a pay per use service, the ability to track files, and downloadable programs for sending files directly from specific applications like Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.

Different Types of YouSendIt Accounts

With the obvious intent of catering to a wide variety of users, YouSendIt offers several different types of accounts.

  • The “Lite” account is free of charge but is limited to only 100MB transfers and excludes many features. This account is ideal for personal use such as sending and receiving photo albums, music files and compressed video files.

  • The “Pro” account is $9.99/month and allows 2GB transfers and 2GB of storage space. Although not free, this account offers basic file tracking and is more practical for small business use.

  • The “Busines Plus” and “Corporate Suite” accounts are more costly but offer more storage space, tracking options, branding and administration options.

  • As an added bonus, new users can try out any of the pay accounts for 14 days for free with no commitments whatsoever. Although the trial period lasts for just 14 days, it is a great way to sample the service and gives users a rare opportunity to transfer 2GB files free of charge.
Who Can Benefit From YouSendIt?

Anyone looking to send or receive files over 10MB in size will appreciate using YouSendit. However, this service is especially attractive to those individuals and businesses working with video, audio and graphic design. These three professional areas all routinely work with very large files – often over 1GB per file or project.

Not too long ago the only practical method to transport these massive files from one location to another was to burn them to CD or DVD and hire a courier service to deliver them. Obviously this was an expensive and time-consuming process so it really comes as no surprise to see YouSendIt thriving in the digital delivery revolution.
